Anchorage Music Co-op Presents:Melissa Mitchell, Emma Hill and Seth Boyer Artist Showcase Series Thursday January 26th 2012, 7pm Out North Contemporary Art House / 3800 Debarr Road, Anchorage, AK 99508 Tickets $15/$10 in advance at Centertix.com Discounted tickets for Anchorage Music Co-op Members, students All Ages Show Anchorage Music Co-op and Out North Contemporary Art House announce the much anticipated kick off of it’s new Artist Showcase Series. Beginning January 26th, on the fourth Thursday of each month, the Music Co-op will bring a featured artist or band to the stage, away from the bar chatter and without the hum of an espresso machine in the background. These showcases will provide a long overdue bridge between the overflowing local talent and audiences that don’t seek out live music at typical Anchorage watering holes. This grassroots start-up expects these shows to sell out based on the theater’s limited seating (capacity is 110) and the fact that the Music Co-op is attracting the interest of the top names in the local scene. The Artist Showcase line up is booked solid through May including top notch performers like: Melissa Mitchell, Emma Hill, Evan Phillips, Kass Smiley and Meg Mackey. To be selected for a showcase, the artist must be an Anchorage Music Co-op member. This membership organization is a group of independent musicians seeking to support local artists in their development while creating performance opportunities. The group is an Art House Resident under the collaborative umbrella of Out North, taking advantage of Out North’s well established links to the community and their intimate theater, an untapped magical listening room. "The Pre-launch show, with Marian Call, completely sold out," said co-founder Lonny Gransbury. "Not bad for an unknown venue in an off the beaten path part of town." "I think Anchorage is exploding with local talent at the moment. There’s not enough places for musicians to play. Bars in town don’t offer music until often 9 or 10 pm. This is too late for anyone with an 8-5pm job and kids that are tucked in by 8:30," says Laura Oden, another a co-founder of the newbie organization. The Music Co-op is designed to link these dependent groups: musicians that want to play, and an audience that wants to listen. Another group often left out of the local music scene is the 14-21 crowd. By all accounts, the under 21 group has a capacity to listen, support, buy music and spread the word about up and coming artists, but they’re left out in the cold if they want to see live performances. The Out North venue is an all ages show, unless otherwise specified, and provides discounts to Music Co-op members and students. The January 26th launch has been embraced by the Anchorage Folk Festival as a part of Anchorage Folk Week. This show will feature three outstanding musicians, Melissa Mitchell, Emma Hill and Seth Boyer playing in a round robin style with each singing a song or two at a time. All three of these performers will play their own original music with cunning melodies and jabbing lyrics. The Anchorage Music Co-op is starting from ground zero and is looking for corporate sponsors and radio support. One such corporate sponsor that has already helped get the co-op off the ground is Bella Boutique, who is underwriting sound engineering for the January showcase. The co-op has a Facebook Page, which is geared toward both audience and musicians and a Facebook Group, which is intended more for musicians. Anyone, whether they are a musician or a music listener, can join the Anchorage Music Co-op by simply going to the Out North website (www.outnorth.org) and making a $15 donation with "Music Co-op" in the description field. The $15 annual membership fee gets members into shows at a discounted rate. Membership funds cover sound engineering, so that shows can be professionally produced and recorded and marketing so that materials can be professionally designed and printed. If you are the highest bidder in a brief live auction you can
leave this event with an artwork by one or more of these artists:

But here’s the Epic part. The artwork is painted on or
permanently attached directly to an interior wall of the gallery.
Your suitable-for-framing artwork will be cut out of the wall,
a “Certificate of Authenticity” will be stenciled onto the back
of it and you can take it home Friday night!

As you know, artist Sheila Wyne is down in Grand Rapids participating in an experiment
called ArtPrize.This is one of those classic, self-funded adventures that artists undertake
all the time and i’m helping her recoup some of the costs by managing her Kickstarter campaign.

There are 15 days left to meet the Spore Project fundraising goal. I want to try and end it early.

I want to go on a push to try and finish up by the end of the day THIS SUNDAY!! If recipients
of this appeal will act now and not wait, I will cease the appeals and we can all just follow Sheila’s
experiences in Grand Rapids through her Kickstarter updates.

Fall is upon us in its most beautiful manifestation. Permanent Fund Dividend checks are on the way.

This new work by Lisa Gray features many Hollywood starlets from the 1950’s rendered digitally blameless despite the self destructive behaviors that often led to the most tragic of consequences.

In her thickly layered imagery, the beautiful and the ugly, the humorous and the sorrowful are inextricably interwoven, creating associations that exude an almost mystical fascination with a world that explains itself in contradiction.

Stephen Gray’s newest photographic collages continue to weave together the twisted strands of thought, motivation, and the bestial human instincts of Billy, the semi-biographical character Gray created as his muse in 2005.

Through the old fashioned technique of collage, Gray portrays a world populated by juvenile innocence and adult guilt.

As part of the fundraising effort, artists are asked to drop off art at MTS
to be auctioned off on the 25th. Bring work by the gallery between 12 & 4
on Saturday and Sunday and between 5 & 8 PM Wed. & Thursday or
form Noon to 2 on Friday, June 25th.

The MTS Gallery First Friday After Hours Salon, OPEN/CLOSE

hosts another in its series of performance events.

This 1st Friday we present You See, a unique collaboration of ideas,

film, dance and music from local Alaskan artists.

Eight artists collaborated on this multimedia performance. It consists of

five short films featuring the dancers of Momentum Dance Collective,

filming and editing by Dan Lee and an original score composed and

produced by Nick Petumenos and Ivan Night.

The films will be presented simultaneously as guests weave their way

through the gallery space, experiencing five different perspectives of

the same night.

The films collage together a story of five individuals who experience

the consequences of their entanglement with each other.

“River of Life ” ~ A One-Time Only Performance of Art in Motion!

March 25, 2010 – Talkeetna, Alaska – A unique collaboration comes to life as two artists – one visual, one vocal – join together for a new creative expression using two different yet simultaneous mediums. Marrying live silk painting – created on-the-spot by Julia March Crocetto – with live vocalArt and improvisational music created on-the-spot by Sharon Corsaro – this artistic duo will present a one-time-only performance, never experienced in Alaska before, to produce art-in-the-moment on Fri, April 2, 8 pm, at MTS Gallery, 3142 Mountain View Drive.

This performance is the latest installment of the MTS Gallery’s ongoing series OPEN/CLOSE, the after hours First Friday Salon. This spontaneous performance carries forth the spirit of collaboration promoted throughout “Confluence/Influence,” an exhibition of Talkeetna River Valley artists curated by Crocetto currently on display at MTS Gallery through April 10. The First Friday Reception also presents a final opportunity to meet the various artists displaying their works in this group invitational show.
