On the 20th of February, just after Valentines Day, MTS Gallery will host the 3rd not so annual Godiva Show. Organized and founded by Tommy Salami O’Malley, this art extravaganza will feature new work by over fifty local artists. Come and help celebrate the human body, chocolate, and “the world’s most famous ride.” Opening reception from 7-9pm.

godiva-flyerShow History:
The first Godiva Show occurred in 2002, containing the work of just 9 artists and displayed on the outside walls of the recently closed D St Cafe.  It was fitting that the work was displayed on the street, just as Lady Godiva’s body had once been.  The second show took place in 200inside the same space, having been transformed into the International Gallery of Contemporary Arts.  There were 30 artists in that show.  This Third Godiva encompasses more than 50 artists, half men and half women and will take place at MTS Gallery in Mountain View.

Why the Human Body:
The human body has always been the classic muse for artists, The body provides opportunities to depict, line, form, volume, proportion, detail, shading, gender and with every body there is a story and attitude.  The Human form is an ultimate challenge.   Drawing the human form is a basic discipline for artists.  But beyond the discipline is the joy of combining the talents of the eye   in concert with the artist’ s hand in that most difficult of subjects.

This event is sponsored by Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge and catered by Tap Root Café. Music will be provided by Reverse Retro.

Trailer Art Center is supported by a grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the citizens of the Municipality of Anchorage, the Anchorage Assembly; additional support provided by the Alaska Arts & Culture Foundation.
