This 1st Friday MTS Gallery Presents: A screening of Sandra Kleven’s short film “To the Moon!”

A tribute to the poet Theodore Roethke, who died in the summer of 1963. This short (10 Minute) film set in Seattle’s University District, imagines Roethke returned, once again young, roaming the streets of the district, making his way to his old haunt the Blue Moon Tavern. An original score and voice-over recitation of well-known poems give substance to this dreamy piece. According to Blue Moon owner Gus Hellthaler, it is a “work of art about a work of art.”

MTS Gallery Presents Side-By-Side exhibitions by Lisa Gray and Stephen Gray

Exhibition Opening Reception Friday, August 20

3142 Mountain View Drive

5:30 – 7:30 PM

Catering by Tap Root Cafe

This new work by Lisa Gray features many Hollywood starlets from the 1950’s rendered digitally blameless despite the self destructive behaviors that often led to the most tragic of consequences.

In her thickly layered imagery, the beautiful and the ugly, the humorous and the sorrowful are inextricably interwoven, creating associations that exude an almost mystical fascination with a world that explains itself in contradiction.

II: GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS and Other Nefarious Delights…

Stephen Gray’s newest photographic collages continue to weave together the twisted strands of thought, motivation, and the bestial human instincts of Billy, the semi-biographical character Gray created as his muse in 2005.

Through the old fashioned technique of collage, Gray portrays a world populated by juvenile innocence and adult guilt.
